As a little girl, Susan Buchanan drove her uncrafty mom crazy. All she wanted to do was make things.
Susan began college at Kansas Wesleyan University, majoring in Environmental Studies, but her love of making things kept drawing her to art classes and she earned a B.A. in Art. She continued on to vocational school to receive a degree in Commercial Art.
She has worked as an artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and magazine art
director. Her drawings, paintings, computer-generated illustration, and jewelry have appeared in several magazines.
For the past decade, jewelry and collage have been her main concentration, even combining the two to create collage jewelry. That jewelry has been featured in 7 galleries across the Midwest, including Chicago, Illinois, Austin, Texas, Door County, Wisconsin, Topeka, Kansas and Lawrence, Kansas.
Besides collage and polymer clay, Susan enjoys creating cloth and clay dolls, fabric painting, paper-mache sculpture, and millinery. Susan finds polymer clay an amazing medium and loves sharing her knowledge and her enthusiasm for it in her classes, which she teaches at Michael's Arts and Crafts in Lawrence, Kansas.
